As a special treat two of our School Councillors spent a day in London which included a very special visit to the Houses of Parliament. After a long journey by coach they were treated to a guided tour of London;  they then went to  the Imperial War Museum, followed by a walk past Downing Street, to Trafalgar Square then on to the Houses of Parliament where they were given a very special tour; they were allowed to go into the House of Commons and the House of Lords were they saw the queens throne.

Councillors were asked to give their views regarding a possible treat for Christmas.  We are planning to arrange for children to go to a Pantomime for their Christmas treat in December. The Pantomime is Snow White and will take place in Knowsley.   We asked the councillors, as representatives of he rest of the pupils, whether they thought the pupils would like to go to a Pantomime and which year groups; for example would Year 5 and 6 like to go or whether we should take Key Stage 1.  The pupils felt that all children would love to go to a Pantomime and that all children from Reception to Year 6 should be given the opportunity.  We are now looking a costs and how many tickets we need to book.  We will let you know more information when we have organised the trip.

Feedback from our Meeting on 13th May

Mr Daniels asked our Councillors their views about how we use our playground for playtimes in the morning and lunchtime.  It has been proposed that all the children from Year 6 to Year 2 use all of the playground and it is no longer separated with Key Stage 2 on one side and Key Stage 1 on the other.  Councillors thought about the good things and any problems that this would bring.

Their ideas were:

It would be good because we would all have more room to play in.

It would be good because you could play with your friends in different years.

There may be a problem because some of the older children might run around too fast and knock into the younger children.

It would be good because the PA Crew could help children from different year groups and could use more of the playground.

What do you think?  Don’t forget to speak to your class councillor and let them know your ideas.

Councillors also heard about Heather and Thomas’s visit to the Town Hall to give a speech.

Don’t forget to put your ideas and suggestions in the Council Boxes in your classrooms.

Thomas, Heather and Kai will be giving feedback at assembly on Monday.

Councillors Represent Government at Town Hall

March 18, 2011 | Uncategorized  |  Comments Off

On Thursday 17th March the Lower House of the Schools Parliament re-enacted a debate representing the House of Commons.  Two of our Councillors, Heather from Year 4 and Thomas from Year 5 were selected to play the part of the Government.  The debate was “should children be allowed to wear their own clothes and Uniform be abolished”.  Heather and Thomas made the opening speeches in front of over 150 people in the Council Chamber of the Town Hall.   To give their persuasive argument a visual element, they decided themselves to conduct their speech in their own clothes.  A representative from the Houses of Parliament in London came to act as the Speaker.  Everybody was very impressed with their performance.

Jeff  who runs the Schools parliament sent us this message:  “ Good to see you today and thanks for all of the preparation that  Tom and Heather must have put in  – it really showed.  Will you pass on my thanks to the two of them for playing such an important role and making the afternoon such a success? ”

Well done Tom and Heather we are very proud of you.

We were delighted to welcome Mr Daniels to our first meeting of the New Year.   Following on from two Councillors visiting the Town Hall and taking part in a Bully Busters workshop, Mr Daniels came to talk to the Councillors about the anti bullying policy at Springwood Heath Primary School.

The Aim of the school’s Anti Bullying Policy is to provide an environment for all children in which they feel safe and have the opportunity to learn in a calm and orderly manner.

Mr Daniels explained that the best thing anybody can do to deal with bullying is to let an adult know what is happening.

SCHOOL COUNCIL

Feedback Notes for Assembly Monday 29th November

  • We are really happy that we have lots of suggestions put into the Suggestions Boxes in the classrooms, but some of them are not very sensible.  Please think carefully about what suggestions you are making.
  • We have been asked again about Monkey Bars.  The new climbing/swinging blocks were put in because we could not have Monkey Bars which might be too high up if children fall.
  • The School Council raised £136 for Children in Need, from the Bingo and the Colouring Competition.  Thank you.
  •  The School Council are going to buy a new game for the Wii from their funds.
  • We have been given some suggestions for how we can use the Football Arena better.  We will pass this on to Mr Daniels and to Mr Hughes.
  • Ellie and Thomas went to the Town Hall to represent the School at the Schools’ Parliament.  They talked about Bullying, and were given information and ideas from BULLYBUSTERS.
